Will there be any downtime when I switch my site over to you for hosting?

What is Virtual Web Hosting?
Domain Web Hosting means you are able to establish and maintain a strong, identifiable Internet presence using your Domain Name (www.yourdomain.ca). Your site is created using our IP Address on our servers enabling us to keep costs low and pass the savings on to you.

Can I get my own Dedicated IP Address?
Yes you can. If you require a dedicated IP Address for your site we can assign you one for a small monthly fee.

What type of hosting servers do you use, Unix or Windows NT/2000?
We provide hosting on both Unix and Windows 2003 servers. By default we host on Windows 2003. If you require Unix, please indicate your server preference in the Extra Requests section of the order form.

What type of server will my site be hosted on?
INET-HOST hosts web sites on both the Unix and Windows 2003 platforms. Sites that require ASP support will be hosted on Windows. Sites requiring PHP support will be hosted on Unix. If you require that your site be set up specifically on one or the other, please indicate this in the additional request section of our Order Form.

Do you have support for Microsoft Front Page?
Yes. We support Web sites created with Front Page and our servers have Front Page 2000-2002 extensions. This enables you to design and post your own professional looking Web sites without having to learn HTML.

How do I upload my pages using Front Page?
Directions on how to upload your web page using Front Page 2000 can be found in our Online Tutorial. Please do not mix using FP "Publishing" and FTP or you will run into problems.

Can I use both Front Page and FTP to upload my site?
No, you can not use both FP and FTP. If the FrontPage server extensions are enabled for your site then please either only publish the web site with FrontPage or only use FTP. If you try to use both FrontPage and FTP you will get permission denied errors while uploading files.

Where can I find out more about Front Page?
Information on how to use Front Page can be found in the documentation that came with Front Page or can be searched for online at http://search.support.microsoft.com/.

I keep getting 550 access denied trying to FTP.
Check and make sure your Username and Password are correct. Most FTP applications do not require the ftp.designation in the host name; try it with or without the ftp. Some applications do not want the "/" (forward slash) in front of the Remote Directory setting; try using web instead of /web for your root directory path. Front Page users: If you switch between FTP and publishing this can interfere with your front page extensions causing file locking resulting in the 550 error. Please contact and we will reinstall your Front Page extensions.

I have requested a mySQL Database. How do I manage it?
It is easy to manage your databse using mySQL-Front. MySQL-Font gives you a GUI that runs on your local desktop that allows you to connect and manage your database. This project has been discontinued; however, you can still download the last version here.

Will you help me create my database?
Due to database security and confidentiality issues we cannot provide database design or administration support. For support issues using mySQL-Front please visit the mySQL-Front Forum.

How do I transfer my domain name?
Most registrars have a section on their web site for changing account or domain information. Contact your registrar for assistance if you require it. If your registration was originally created through us, we can have it done for you.

Where is my cgi-bin directory?
You can create a scripts directory anywhere within your site and call it anything you like. General practice is to call it cgi-bin and locate it in the root directory of your site. For UNIX hosted sites make sure you chmod it to 755 (some scripts may dictate differently) This provides execute permissions on the folder. Check your FTP application instructions for more information. Windows does not support the chmod command. All folders have the necessary permissions for scripts to execute.

What is the path to Perl?
For Unix hosted sites the path to Perl is: #!/usr/bin/perl
Web Dir: /home/sites/www.your_domain_name/web
For Windows hosted sites the path is:#!/webservices/bin/perl
Web Dir: d:\inetpub\sites\www.your_domain_name\web

What is the path to Sendmail?
For Unix hosted sites: /usr/sbin/sendmail
For Windows there is no sendmail. You can use SMTP from a Windows server.

How do I administer E-mail Accounts?
The url to administer your email accounts is http://www.yourdomain.ca/siteadmin/ - More help can be found in our Online Tutorial.

How many POP e-mail accounts can I have?
1 POP account for each MB of space. (i.e. 10MB = 10 POP accounts) Unlimited aliases.
Front Page supported sites are limited to 1 POP account for each 3MB of space. Unlimited aliases.

Can my POP accounts be xyz@myname.ca?
Yes, in fact you can have many. You can create new accounts or add aliases to existing ones. It is all under your control.

Can I delete my original Admin user and recreate it?
No, if you delete your admin user you will no longer have access to your web site and we will have to delete and recreate the whole site. Please make sure that you do not delete the admin user for your site. You should add an alias to this account for using a different name for email.

How do I send e-mail through my account?
We only supply POP email services which means that we do not send email, only receive. You must use your ISP's email account to send mail. See "Setting Up E-mail Clients" in our Online Tutorials for more information.

I can login to the iMail web interface but not through Outlook.
Check that the username entered in your email client is formatted as your email address. (i.e. username@yourdomain.ca)

Why do I get emails for nonexisting people and how do I stop it?
By default catch-all email handling is turned on for your domain's email.
For Windows Users on iMail: Browse to mail.yourdomain.ca and log on to your main email account. Select Alias Administration from the drop-down menu. Scroll for and delete the "nobody" alias. To undo just add it back and enter the account to send catch-all email to.
For Unix Users: Browse to www.yourdomain.com/siteadmin and log on. You will see that your main account has the alias @www.yourdomain.com listed. Click on the mail icon to administer your email for that user. Delete the @www.yourdomain.com alias. To undo just add the alias back to the account you wish to receive catch-all email.

Will I be able to change and update my web pages on a regular basis?
Yes, you will be able to update your web page at any time using FTP. There are no additional charges for updating your web site, so you can update it as often as you want. If you need more information on how to do this, see our Online Tutorials page for FTP instructions.

Which mode of support do you prefer email or telephone?
For your convenience we have an online Support Request Form. Using this form is probably the easiest and quickest method, as it generates a support ticket immediately. It has been proven that this or email support is more effective, because all problems are documented and can be tracked easily.

Will there be any downtime when I switch my site over to you for hosting?
No. Following these 3 simple steps will guarantee that your site is always available while the DNS changes are propagating through the system. Please inform us this is the case in the Extra Requests section when ordering.

1. INET-HOST will set up your site on our server and send you an email with pre-publishing information and the FTP procedures on uploading your files to our server. At this point you will only be able to browse your new site or FTP your files using the temporary address.

2. Visit your registrar's Domain Name modifications area (or account modification) on their web site and follow their procedure for transferring your Name Server information. Once you've modified the DNS information it will take approximately 24 to 48 hours for this information to propagate over the Internet. During this time, when someone types your domain name on any browser, he/she will see your site either on the previous server or on our server.

3. At the end of the propagation period, the transfer is complete and your site will only be available from our server. At this point you may have your site removed from your previous server and be able to FTP using normal domain name settings.
